GolfDriverReviews Editor’s Review

Mizuno has put a lot of technological research into their MP-630 Fast Track driver and it shows. It is one of the most off-the-shelf customizable golf drivers on the market. With over 45 different flight settings that let you control not only the left and right trajectories, but also up and down trajectories, you are sure to find a setting to suit your swing or the conditions on the course for that day. It may take some time at the practice range to find what works best for you, but once you do, this club is a real gem.

If you’re just starting out or haven’t really reached the intermediate level in your golf game, then this is probably not the club for you. The loft settings on the Mizuno MP-630 Fast Track only go up to 10.5 degrees, which is sufficient for most players, but not beginners. Also the price is a bit of a turn off, $500 new. But for the serious golfer who can really see some benefits off the tee, it’s worth it.

There are not a lot of player reviews out yet, as the Fast Track just hit the market a few months ago, so we can’t give it 5 stars. However based on what we’ve seen so far, and the overall technology features that go into this driver, we are happy to put 4.5 stars on it.

The Good

  • Features – there are a lot of cool features with this golf driver, especially the adjustable weight settings – with 45 different trajectory settings you can play with that gizmo for hours out on the course.
  • Easy to use – Mizuno has put out a smooth driver that’s easy to swing
  • High quality – Mizuno puts a lot of research into their golf drivers and it shows.
  • Shots run well – the shots tend to come off a little lower with the Fast Track, but run a mile.

The Bad

  • A little flat – in consumer reviews players mentioned that the ball felt a little flat at impact and the ball striking sound was not as metallic as they were used to.
  • Expensive – you’re talking about $500 new and $430 used. Of course you are getting a top of the line driver, but we’d suggest demo-ing it if you can, to make sure it’s right for you.

Technology Features

The Mizuno MP-630 Fast Track Driver has 45 different trajectory settings that can be adjusted through two 8 gram sliding weights that are built into the sole of the club head. Mizuno’s Fast Track system lets golfers adjust the left and right properties of the ball, smoothing out draws and fades, and it also lets you adjust the ball flight up or down. This feature is really unique to the Fast Track driver and it will allow you to control the spin rate of the ball up or down and raise or lower the launch angle. You can get more air when you need it or less when you don’t, depending on the conditions at the course.

You can see how moving the weights around effects the direction and height of the ball at the Mizuno Fast Track Ball Flight Simulation website. It’s really pretty cool.

Mizuno has also gone after increasing the ball speed as well as the COR area to generate maximum distance through the use of a hot metal all-titanium club face. This design saves weight and increases the spring-like effect of the face.

Also to improve aesthetics and sound quality, Mizuno conducted sound impact analysis studies and frequency tuning to ensure the MP-630 Fast Track driver has a solid, powerful sound and a great feel at impact. In addition the head features a modern pear shape with a slightly open face.
