tour-edge-exotics-xcg-driverOur number sixteen rated golf driver for the 2009 season is the Tour Edge Exotics XCG Driver. We based our analysis on the following criteria.

= Golf Digest Magazine 2009 Hot List Gold Medal Winner
= GOLF Magazine’s 2009 Golf Buyer’s Guide Top Pick
= Golf Test USA Top 10 Ranking
= Average Customer Reviews from (1) sites: 5.0 out of 5 (based on 6+ reviews)
= Surprisingly, Tour Edge does not pay any professionals to play their Tour Edge Exotics clubs.  According to their website, players choose to use the clubs on Tour because of the clubs performance.  Players feel that Tour Edge clubs give them the best chance for success. Tour Edge doesn’t list any players names on their site, but they do list tournaments that have been won by players using Tour Edge clubs.  By backtracking and looking at tournament final standings you can find what pros are using these wonderful clubs.

Our Review

There are several key technological breakthroughs that are unique to this driver and that’s why it rests solidly in our top 20. The Tour Edge Exotics XCG Driver features the industry’s first magnesium crown. (The crown is the top of the club head and what you see when you look down and get ready to tee off.) The ultra light magnesium crown is two times lighter than typical titanium crowns. This moves the weight distribution of the club head such that the head is heavier in the sole. The result for you is better control of the club and a faster swing speed. Another benefit of magnesium is the material’s dampening characteristics. The crown and neck of the XCG are able to absorb more shock on contact, providing a smooth, powerful feeling at impact. To further save every ounce of weight, the three pieces of the club head are bonded through a revolutionary no-weld process called combo-brazing.

Capable of producing extreme distance, the XCG-V’s cup-face is a remarkable 125% larger than previous models. This engineering advancement creates a 30% bigger hot zone (sweet spot) for impressive power even on off-center hits.

Tour Edge has always been a leader in golf driver design and the Exotics XCG driver continues that tradition.
